ABSTRACT

The Tesseract and the Tuba Tree

Imagine if young people with the potential to innovate were not limited by their local ecosystems, were not stuck with their roots in the ground.

The critical role of access to a rich entrepreneurial ecosystem has been well-established, through research conducted by the World Economic Forum and the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. If every young person who sees a better way had access to the ecosystem she needs to launch and scale new solutions, it would be a different world indeed. We have the human capital and the technology to achieve this. Majorities of youth in many countries aspire to be entrepreneurs, and we have the basis for a global platform that enables them to build, connect and showcase their solutions. This global platform must link ecosystems across campuses, communities, and corporations. It must also connect entrepreneurial talent, resources, and opportunities across borders – of country, culture, gender, and industry – if we are to launch the waves of innovation and entrepreneurship that will bring the jobs and growth we need.

The future lies outside a small circle of people confirming each other’s ideas and defending each other’s markets and business models. Youth without access have what it takes to give us breathable air, health care that heals, coastlines that don’t disappear, food that isn’t poison, and clothes not made by slaves. The future is a young person whom we don’t expect to birth a new world, who gains a portal to the ecosystem she needs to make it real.
